Pets' Reunion (sorta)

We had a pets' reunion. Well, sorta. Wimpi has grown too fat to get its butt out of the house (the Lemonz came though :P), and Korni was entertaining guests at the moment. So it is just the few of us. :D

Lots of New Phones

This is pre-release Blackberry phone which my ex-Boss is using. Don't ask me how he got hold of this :P Anyway, the screen looks wonderful, the graphics so 3D, so vivid, looks almost like a touch screen... must poke ;P

This one is Wara's new phone. It has very nice screen too and the camera is good too. Much better than my O2. (You hear me, O2?! Much better!!!) Anyway, the user interface is snappy and the graphics is very nice. Plus the keypad feels good although it feels too plastic. Oh I really miss a keypad. (You getting this O2?! Har! You getting this?!!)
This is Eddie's new toy. A very good phone indeed. I feel it is a O2 mini done right! Complete with WiFi, 2 megapixel camera and it can actually be turned OFF. (O2, O2, O2.... SIGH!)

Frog

This is the most tedious, most complex, most "breathtaking" origami to date. In fact, I just spend the last 5 mins blowing up the asshole of a paper frog. Yucks! I think the frog has a splitted up butt :P

Perfect Breakfast

The TCC at the junction of Beach Road and Purvis Street is the best place to have breakfast. It is peaceful (ok! deserted,) in the morning. The place has nice deco with red and white chair. TCC provides one of the best breakfast sets. For $7.00++, you can have a American breakfast set which consist of a cup of their house brewed coffee, a glass of orange juice and a very nice meal of salad, ham, sausage, hash brown, bread, butter, jam, and your chosen type of egg. Value for money!

Plant Starter

Morning Flowers

On my way to work today, I passed by a house with lots of plants and bushes around the fence. One particular plant stood out and I could not resist whipping out my camera to take a picture. Such cheerful flowers. Have a good day!

Tired

Don't seem to have a lot of energy recently... Besides dealing with stupidity and incompetence a lot at work, I have been going to SGH too often recently. Friend, colleague, father and of course myself. Sigh.

Had a splitting headache last night... Horrible.

Ever wonder what happen to all those origami I folded?

Hell Tank

This may sound familiar to some of you all. I have two fish tanks at home belonging to my dad. I call them hell tank (credit goes to Desmond for the term though :P) , because any fish that goes into these two tanks will die pre-maturely.

Firstly, the water is horribly dirty. My dad has this idea about using some water purifying chemical that will cause the water to become clear, thus saving the trouble of changing water. Well, it works... for a couple of days. Then the water will start to turn cloudy again, and in goes more chemicals...

Then, there is the feeding problem. My dad will feed the fishes twice a day and whenever they may dance near the glass pane appearing hungry which basically is every time you walk near the tanks. So most of them have extremely bloated stomach. My father thinks that they are pregnant. I think they are too full of food or air. Before long, they will start to swim upside down (i.e. tummy up!) My father thinks that they are doing acrobatics, I think that they are dying...

Well, so before long, the fishes will die and a trip will be made to the nearest fish shop to replenish the lost fishes. So far there should be at least a hundred fishes which die in these tanks... and the only one laughing is the fish shop owner all the way to his grave!

The latest victim...
Soon dead fishes...

Happy Chef

There is this Happy Chef Western Food stall in the Happy Chef coffee shop near Lavendar MRT station. It is run by a couple who had a restaurant in Australia. They serve normal western food as well as not so usual ones like the one I had. Could not really remember the name, but it is sure yummy... :P

There are ham and cheese wrapped in chicken with great sauce.

Alternative Cafe in SGH

There is a cafe on the 8th Level of Block 6,7 and 8 of SGH (They are all linked :P). The place is quiet and the ambience is good. The quality of the food is nothing to brag about, and the price is not exactly cheap, but the place is different. I think it is meant for student doctors, because I found a couple of lecture room around the place.

It has this interesting pasta and spice mural thingie too.

Queues and Fishballs

ONE: Queue = Good Food!
TWO: Giant Fishballs
THREE: Sucker queues long time for great fishball mee!

P.S. The Hong Lim Food Center, otherwise known as Pearl Center just outside Chinatown MRT is re-opened after renovation. The place now very clean with a lot of great food stalls. Definitely a place to grow fat in. Definitely going back! LOL

D-Link and their NTP vandalism

Here is an interesting article about how badly implemented firmware by DLink cause a Danish NTP operator a lot of money, problems and time.

To put it simply, computers update their clocks using a method call NTP (Network Time Protocol) whereby they ask timekeeper servers (NTP server) for the correct time.

In order for many functions of the computer to work properly, accurate time is extremely important. This goes for hardware like network routers too. Here comes the stupid part. It seems that the popular router maker D-Link has make a mistake and included a private NTP server in their list of NTP servers in a new version of their router firmware without asking permission. In the end, lots and lots of routers around the world start asking the poor NTP server for the correct time and all the addition bandwidth adds up and is very very costly to the person who is running the NTP pro bono publico.

The problem is D-Link is not admitting to the mistake and puts a lawyer who probably does not know what he is dealing with on the case.

Well, if you are using a D-Link router, check if you are using one of the offending firmware versions. Upgrade quickly if there is a fixed firmware available. Else do write to D-Link to ask for a fix.

This issue highlights some problems:
  1. Hardware router firmware writers might not be competent. If you are relying on them to protect your office or home network from external threats, think again.
  2. The slow network traffic you are experiencing might not be the fault of your ISP. You could be sending out thousands of network packets because your computer has been taken over. And no I am not kidding! If your network card/wireless adapter is blinking like crazy when you are not doing anything that connects to the web, you are it!
  3. Not everyone can be programmers. Simple as it may seems, especially with all the new and friendly IDE available now, it takes a lot to be a skilled programmer. A lot. Be nice when you meet a competent one.

Mellben Crab

One of the best place to eat crab in Singapore, the coffee shop opposite May Flower Secondary School in Ang Mo Kio is the place to visit if you are a crab lover. Heck! Go even if you are not a crab lover like me, coz the food there is fantastic!
Be forewarned! Either be one of the ten people who booked a table a day or go before six o'clock or be prepared to queue for a long long time!
This lotus leaves pork ribs dish is unique in flavour and refreshing in taste. Recommended.
Tofu with seafood mixed in. Okie lah... not too bad.
The star of the show! Chilli Crab! We learned something too! The male crab are bigger and more juicy with bouncier meat, but the female crab are sweeter and have the arteries clogging roes that most people loved!
What is Chilli Crab without buns?! Small, delicious, perfect!
Fresh prawn stream with a dash of wine! The best way to eat fresh prawns!

Kaya Toast and Coffee

If you like to have a nice cup of coffee and hot toasted kaya bun in a old coffee shop like me, go to Katong opposite the Five-Star Chicken Rice, beside the chunch. Best in East Coast and Katong, and possibly Singapore!

Island Creamery

You should visit this place if you like ice-cream. It is at Serene Center in Upper Bukit Timah. They make their own ice-cream and have a lot of funnie flavours.

They have the best Mud Pie I have eaten. Better than Seah Street Deli and Prego. It is that good!
They make wonderful ice-cream. The mango ice-cream actually taste like mango, and not some sugar-sweeten mango flavouring! Which makes it not nice, since I don't really like to eat mango :P The white colour ice-cream is made from Tiger beer... leaves a bitter aftertaste and probably a good sized spare tire tummy too! :P

Some things just change whether you like it or not.
  • Good help doesn't help
  • Promise breaks
  • People who cared don't anymore
  • Good listening ear becames irriating mouth
  • Things now off limits
Tired. No strength to go back again and again. It is hard to clap with one hand.

Help me remember!

I forgotten the name of the ice-cream place at Serene Centre and the Crab place at Ang Mo Kio. Can someone help?

Super super super belated birthday present!

papderd suddenly remember to give me something today! It is a spa voucher with free massage and food. And it is for my birthday! This is the most belated birthday present I ever received. But hey, I am not complaining, because he gotten me what I want! Hahaha!

Shopping

I went on a shopping spree today! Got myself more DVD+R and a brand new keyboard. I guess after using the low profile keyboard of a notebook for too long, I sort of gotten used to it. Besides, a combination of cordless phone, Wifi and mobile phone signal seems to be interfering with my old wireless keyboard's signal. Sometimes the Ctrl key is logically struck although the physical key is okay. Sometimes, the keys will automatically repeats themselves. Fustrating. So I used this excuse to get the a new Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000.

citysea has been using this compact quick dry towel, and I thought it is a very good idea so I decide to get one for myself!
